Mike Knuble signed a new, two-year free agent contract with the Washington Capitals on the opening day of free agncy. At just $2.8-million per season, that is an absolute bargain in today’s NHL. Especially when you consider that a 20-25 goal scorer like Gionta commanded $5-million per year on a long-term deal.

Knuble scored 27-goals last season and 29 two years ago. He is a consistent 25-30 goal threat. And don’t be scared of by his age either. Knuble will turn 37 on July 4th, but its paramount to keep in mind though that he is one of those late bloomers. You see, Knuble did not have his first noteable season until age 30, when he scored 30-goals and 59-points with the Boston Bruins.

A big goal-scoring winger, Knuble is exactly what all NHL teams crave and Knuble is exactly that at 6′3 and 230-pounds! Furthermore, playing on one of Washington’s top two lines, it is almost certain that Knuble is destined to crack the 30-goal mark once again!

Knuble’s crease-crahing persona is exactly what the finesse oriented Capitals need and lack. He greatly compliments dipsy doodlers Alexander Semin, Nicklas Backstrom and Michael Nylander on the Washington front lines.

Just as importantly, the Capitals have removed one of the Flyers top goal-scoring threats and come playoff time, that could be the biggest gain of all.
