BRENDAN MORRISON SIGNS 1-YEAR, $1.5-MILLION DEAL
July 14th, 2009 | by Scott Madore |
At his peak, Morrison centered Vancouver’s big line, with Todd Bertuzzi on his right and Markus Naslund to his left.
Flash-forward to the current Morrison and what you have is a struggling former No. 1 center with 25 and 31-points his last two seasons.
Once an NHL iron man, played all 82-games for six consecutive seasons from 2000-01 to 2006-07, Morrison joins his third team in the last twelve months by signing with the Capitals.
With the signing, Washington is attempting to fill the second line centre void left by Sergei Fedorov, who left the team to sign in Russia.
For a mere $1.5-million (by NHL standards) it is not a bad signing at all for a top-six forward and second line centre. Morrison has had some bad luck with injuries lately and if he can bounce back to the 50-60-point performer he was just a short time ago, Washington will have gotten more than their money’s worth.
