OVECHKIN’S NON-HAT TRICK
October 18th, 2009 | by Scott Madore |
As non unusual as this may sound, Alex Ovechkin single-handedly led his Capitals over the opposing Predators Saturday night.
He scored Washington’s only two goals in regulation time, both in the first period. Too boot, he also potted the shootout winner.
You see, even when the rest of the Caps team takes the night off, Ovie always seems to be there to bail them out. Or atleasts tries to. In just eight games so far this season, he already has 61 shots on goal. His 2-goal effort against Nashville last night, gave Ovechkin his fourth multi-goal game of this young season.
The best and most hilarious part of the game by far had to be the hats on the ice after Ovechkin’s shootout goal. Even my wife, who is merely a casual hockey fan at best said, “Scott, what the heck are those idiots doing? That’s not a hat-trick, Ovechkin scored in the shootout, it doesn’t count!”.
For her to know that and the 18′000-plus supposed hockey fans not to, I found to be quite entertaining. The blah expression shown on the usually excitable Ovechkin’s face on the bench was priceless indeed. You can just imagine what Alex was thinking (”Hmmm, do these fan understand game? Should I be excite? Ah, no I just sit here and say nothing until hats stop”).
Through eight games this season, Ovechkin has nine goals already. Through the first eight games of last season, he had just two! Nice start Alex, lets keep it goin’!
