Need to Know: Sabres vs. Capitals Pregame

December 23rd, 2009 | by mattleighton |

The Caps are 6-0-1 when Brooks Laich scores a goal. Laich has one goal in his last 15 games. In his career against Buffalo, Laich has scored twice in 18 games.

Nicklas Backstrom has four goals in the past four games. Washington is 8-2-1 in games that Backstrom picks up more than one point.

Tom Poti has not scored in the past 67 regular season games.

Mike Green is on pace for five Power Play goals, 13 less than last year’s total of 18.

Jose Theodore is 5-0-2 in his last seven games at home. But in those seven games, he’s allowed less than three goals just twice, both those games being in October, mind you.

Buffalo is 4-1 in their past five road games.

Patrick Kaleta (yes, that Patrick Kaleta) is four goals away from leading the Sabres in scoring.

Buffalo is 13-2 in games that Drew Stafford registers a point.

The Sabres are 7-2 in games following victories on the road (they are coming off a win in Toronto).

Ryan Miller is 10-4/2.42/.916/3 shutouts in his career against Washington. Yikes. Miller is 10-3/1.82/.942/2 shutouts on the road this season. Double yikes.
